They were
in the midst of all the action
and alone
after all.
Everybody
was busy with himself.
No one
cared.
All that
activity was probably
too much
for Mary and Joseph,
but when
they needed help the most
no one was
there.
They knew
who it was
who was
going to be born,
but surely
they did not imagine
his arrival
was going to be so pitiful.
No one had
compassion,
and no one gave
them reasonable accommodations,
so that
they ended up in a stable.
Without
hygiene,
without
medical help,
without
material goods,
without aid
did the
savior of the world
see the
light of the world.
Actually we
all need to be
ashamed
even today
for the way
humanity
received
their savior.
Actually at
least today
we should have
an eye for the needy
in the
midst of our busyness.
They are so
close to us
but even
today
we are so
busy thinking about ourselves.
In all this
time nothing has changed.
Hardly
anyone opens his heart
and his
door for the needy neighbor.
Hardly
anyone seriously takes time to listen.
Hardly
anyone shows compassion.
Hardly
anyone lends a helping hand.
We have
known
for several
thousand years
who it was
that came to us and why.
We know
about his life
and that he
turned
the world
upside down
in all simplicity.
But are we
ready to receive him today
when he
stands before us
in the appearance
of a needy
citizen?
Are we
willing to put into practice
his
principles on a day to day basis
instead of
just occasionally
calming our
bad conscience?
Are we not
only prepared for his arrival
during the
Advent and Christmas time,
but also are
we really prepared for his return?
Mary and
Joseph were all alone
in the
midst of the action.
Is it our
fellow citizen today as well?
Let us
develop a view
for those
that have been left alone
in the
midst of our busyness!
Theme: There are people left alone today as well
