When God’s truth gets mixed up - When God’s truth gets mixed up with selfish desires

When God’s truth gets mixed up
(3007121739-1757)

In my faith
I have tolerated much,
that is not according to your word.
I have added and subtracted
from the guidelines
you have set forth
just as it was convenient to me.
Oh, on the outside
everything looked so religious,
but on the inside
I robbed myself of your blessing.
I was focused on worldly goods
money and human recognition
being at the top of the list
thinking that is
the best blessing I can get.
For a while it seemed to work
but when the euphoria died down
and I got used to all of that
my heart stayed empty.
I had no idea that your blessing
came from inside.
Deep satisfaction
and a feeling of happiness
and joy that radiates
regardless of my outward circumstances
is the lasting blessing that you bring.
I had twisted and bent your word
just as it was convenient to me
and not taken it serious.
As a result I was lacking
your approval and your blessing.
I put myself first in everything I did
instead of being your representative.
I expected people to serve me
because of the position I was holding
when all along you taught
that  the biggest one
should serve the least.
Yes I knew the Bible
and what it taught
better then some others
but what I was living out
was not according to the word of God
but according to my own
selfish nature.
And by doing that
I contributed to the fact
that many other people
rejected the God I claimed to serve.
I have mixed up
God’s truth
and instead of serving
pure spring water
I gave the people muddy water
and it made them sick.

Oh Lord, forgive me!

Theme:   When God’s truth gets mixed up with selfish desires

For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves. (Luke 22:27)

The greatest among you will be your servant. (Matthew 23,11)

Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others. (1.Corinthians 10:24)
